counter)induction performs Studies for violin and cello

Miranda Cuckson, violin

Caleb van der Swaagh, cello

Timbre is central to the development of the piece. It stems from Bach’s C Sharp Minor Triple Fugue from the Well-tempered Clavier’s Book I. From 4’19”, the subject is exposed briefly, setting a melancholy tone that becomes crying whispers as the bow moves across every centimeter of the fingerboard. The piece starts climbing on 7’47” to its climax, 8’53”, a harsh and raw rhythmic unison dominates the texture.
