I watched them burying me
My piece is driven by one sound on what Totó la Momposina describes as the music of the old days. The unintended sliding sound in “La Candela Viva” is the relentless perpetual center. This “mistake” sounds like an airy marimba, which interplays and moves around between the tape and instrumental funk sharp attacks while the synth serves as an evolving mysterious drone.
Finally!
After two years in the making– between the composing, the first reading, edits, the rehearsals, the premiere, and the countless emails with marvelous beings,– I’m really happy to officially release «I watched them burying me» This is the first piece I wrote during the pandemic, and it was my first long-distance project. I want to thank Alan and the amazing performers at Alarm Will Sound, also the brilliant team at LinderVox Sound, especially Rob Boullion, and of course THE master engineer Murat Çolak for bringing my baby to existence.
It’s the community for me. It’s the time and patience that Gavin Chuck help to set up the electronics for the piece. It’s the fact that festivals like the Mizzou International Composers Festival (MICF) at the Mizzou New Music Initiative exists for me. It’s Jacob Gotlib’s aid in 2021 for me. It’s Ableton, Sibelius, my minilogue Korg, and Hanji, my laptop, my loyal creative companions for me. The list can go on and on….
💖 Mil y mil gracias! 💖
